상자텃밭 활용 원예활동이 초등학생들의 과학흥미도, 사회성 및 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

Abstract
This study was conducted to examine that the container vegetable gardening activities in elementary school impact on improving the scientific interest, social ability, and academic achievement of children. For the gardening activities, one small container for cultivating leaf vegetables was supplied to each student and two large containers for cultivating root and fruit vegetables were supplied to each group, in which composed of 5 students in one third grade class of an elementary school in Seoul. Self watering containers using wick were used. The gardening activities were guided and taught by a teacher who was in charge during inventive optional classes. 30 third grade students participated in the experimental group as part of an school gardening class, and 28 third grade students served as the control group. Within groups, the total score of scientific interest was significantly increased and the interest in science as the sub-category of scientific interest was also significantly improved in experimental group. Experimental group showed higher total score of scientific interest and higher score of interest in science activities than those in the control group. As for social ability, the total score of social ability and the score of its sub-category such as diligence, responsibility, and law- abidingness were significantly improved after the container vegetable gardening activities. However, law-abidingness in the control group was declined significantly. The both groups showed more academic achievement after the gardening activities with no difference between groups.
