Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of horticultural activities program to which creativity techniques were applied on the creativity of young children, and to encourage the adoption and use of horticulture classes in early childhood education. To verify the effects of the HAP(horticultural activities program), 21 children aged 4-6 years from H nursery school in G-gu, Seoul were chosen for the experimental group, and 21 children aged 4-6 years from K nursery school in Anyang, Gyeonggido, for the control group. The non-equivalent control group pre and post-test design was used for the experiment. For the experimental group, the HAP to which creativity techniques such as brainstorming, SCAMPER, the unusual use method, and the hope enumeration method were applied was used twice a week for 10 weeks, and the program was not applied to the control group. For the total creativity scores, the experimental group improved points on the average. This was statistically significant(p=0.000). The control group improved points on the average, but its improvement was not statistically significant(p=0.309). These results suggest that the HAP in which creativity techniques were applied had positive effects on the creativity of the young children. The aforementioned results of this study showed that the HAP to which creativity techniques were applied generally had positive effects on the creativity of young children. Therefore, the use of horticultural activities with creativity classes in early childhood education will be very effective in the improvement of the creativity of young children.
