Abstract
The objectives of this study were to investigate floras and water ecology structures and to establish conservation methods for riparian zone in Wi’chon River, Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. Kinds of vascular plants in study sites were totally 192(162 species, 3 varieties, 161 genus and 67 families). The number of herbs species were higher than that of tree species. Floral zones of aquatic plants and floating leaved plants were not organized. Some hygrophyte species such as Persicaria thunbergii, P. hydropiper, Commelina communis, Carex forficula, Salix gracilistyla, S. purpurea, Phragmites japonica, Oenanthe javanica, etc) were distributed in study sites. The plant communities in study sites were classified into 2 communities; Phragmites japonica community and S. gracilistyla community. The species which showed high species diversity index were Phragmites japonica, Pennisetum alopecuroides and C. forficula. Species diversity index and community similarity index were distributed from 0.890 to 1.337 and from 0.33 to 0.60, respectively. Various kinds of disturbance such as farming, compaction, livestock grazing, gabion and concrete retaining, etc. were occurred in study sites. Soil washed by precipitation was making temporarily sedimentary areas around double width of river bed. To solve these problems, it is necessary to remove accumulated soil and plant some water purification species such as Oenanthe javanica, P. communis and Typha orientalis, etc.
