Abstract
The air anions generated by potted plants were investigated as affected by light intensity in C₃ plants, and day and night in CAM plants. C₃ plants were acclimatized at 20 μmolㆍm⁻²ㆍs⁻¹ and measured at 0, 20, 100, and 200 μmolㆍm⁻²ㆍs⁻¹. The air anions emission by C₃ plants was the greatest at 20 μmolㆍm⁻²ㆍs⁻¹ and was Rhapis excelsa (300/cm³), Fatsia japonica (497/cm³), and Rosmarinus officinalis (735/cm³). The air anions emission by CAM plants was little difference between day and night, and was a little amount compared with C₃ plants. The number of air anions generated by Zamioculcas zamiifolia was the greatest, but that generated by Sansevieria trifasciata was the smallest among CAM plants tested. As a results, the air anions emission by C₃ plants was the greatest at 20 μmolㆍm⁻²ㆍs⁻¹ light intensity, and that by CAM plants was little affected by light intensity.
