Abstract
The purpose of this study was to obtain an basic data on current status and prospect and cultural preservation for utilization of wild vegetable crops(WVC). The subject of this study were 20’ adult men and women, and they were composed of 143 adult males and 148 adult females. In this study, we examine an understanding, the discerning power and the existence of edible experience of WVC, and the results of the survey were as follows. In results of 20’s liking preference on WVC, our results have shown that male and female respondents preferred 51.1% and 39.1% above, respectively. Respondents prefered to WVC, because “There are a lot of beneficial ingredients in WVC” and “WVC is pollution-free and natural food”. However, Some respondents not prefered to WVC because of “WVC is taste bad and strong bitterness”. We have also investigated both the actual marketing states of WVC in five-day traditional markets of the partial Gwangyang districts. and the discerning power of WVC through measure method of 5 grades using 32 kinds of WVC. Respondents answered that they known about 11 kinds of WVC in the discerning power of WVC, and that they known about 6 kinds of WVC in the extent to know WVC. Respondents answered that more than 80% of all respondents can distinguish 6 kinds of WVC(18.8%), such as fern, bellflower root, parsley, scallions, mugwort, bamboo shoots, and respondents with the edible experience can distinguish 8 kinds of WVC(25%), such as ferns, horseradish, soothing, codonopsis, bellflower, parsley, scallions, mugwort. Therefore, we propose that these results are associated with the needs of the educational expansion for the utilization of WVC as well as improvement of the marketing structure of WVC in order to preserve and develope WVC.
