Abstract
This study aims at providing the directions to develop proper Forest Kindergarten model and offering Forest Kindergarten source data applicable to the field to activate Forest Kindergartens the institution nature-focused green education through the analysis on the Forest Kindergarten programs managed by Northern regional forest service. The research method is the analysis was made on operational status, program, facility and participation of 14 Forest Kindergartens belonging to the seven Northern regional forest service agencies in the western area of Gangwon and the capital area, the living sphere for the half and more Korean people. From the results, first, it was found that almost all kindergartens belonged to the category of experience type Forest Kindergarten, all of them operated weekend services under the previously made agreement. Second, the contents of forest narration program were divided into sense, body, creativity, natural knowledge, spiritㆍsensibility and other education types were in operation with the teaching plans in line with facilities/environment at the forest kindergarten site. Third, the most common facility type was botanical garden and outdoor education facility, without sufficient shelter facility. Fourth, Suraksan Forest Kindergarten showed the highest participation, with its conveniently accessed and well developed forest interpreting course. Meanwhile, Soopchewon Forest Kindergarten showed the next highest participation. This is Korea’s only recreational facility that specializes in forest culture experience and education, with the unique and various types of programs such as the Golden Bell quiz in Forest.
