Abstract
Due to intensive industrialization, industrial wastewater has caused severe water pollution in marginal water. In this study, native plants of Korea, which were selected based on local vegetation in watershed were used to determine the potential of landscape restoration and water quality improvement in stream watershed. Nineteen species of native plants of Korea were selected as plant materials, planted in Wagner pots, and grown for five months. Standard Sonneveld nutrient solution was used for fertigation. At 3 and 5 days after planting, root parts in plant species grown under fertigation were sampled to assess the levels of total nitrogen(T-N) and total phosphorus(T-P). For uptake rate of total nitrogen, T50 in Miscanthus sacchariflorus BENTH., Carex doniana SPRENG., Carex dimorpholepis STEUD., Calamagrostis pseudophragmites (HALLERF.) KOELER, Carex dispalata BOOTT. were 2.00, 2.13, 2.18, 2.21, 2.29 days, whereas those in Mazus miquelii MAKINO., Salix koreensis ANDERSS., Equisetum hyemale L., Phalaris arundinacea L., Juncus effusus var. decipiens BUCHEN. were 3.13, 3.54, 4.17, 4.51, and 7.55 days, respectively. For uptake rate of T-P, T50 in Carex doniana SPRENG., Miscanthus sacchariflorus BENTH., Carex dimorpholepis STEUD., Carex dispalata BOOTT., Calamagrostis pseudophragmites (HALLERF.) KOELER. were 1.85, 1.90, 1.90, 1.90, 1.92days, where T50 in Salix koreensis ANDERSS., Phalaris arundinacea L., Acorus gramineus SOLAND., Juncus effusus var. decipiens BUCHEN., Equisetum hyemale L. were 2.24, 2.25, 2.25, 2.27, and 2.30 days, respectively. It was found that there were differences in uptake rate for pollutants depending on plant species. In conclusion, it was suggested that the uptake rate for various pollutants in plants should be considered for effective water purification once planting in watershed.
